Medellín is the cultural and economic centre of the Antioquia department in the heart of Colombia. Despite its difficult past, it has become an innovative, dynamic and pulsating city. This and the fact of living an eternal spring, made it a popular destiny for local and foreign tourists who often succumb the city’s and its people’s charms.

AFS Colombia is happy to offer for second time in cooperation with the Tecnológico de Medellín a four (4) weeks Spanish Language Short Program. The course will start on 10th of July and end on 3rd of August 2017. From the 28th of July to 6th of August will take place the “Feria de las Flores”, the most important social and cultural event of Medellín. The Feria not only consists of Flower Parades, but also incorporate a lot of other different events such as music festivals and competitions, cavalcades, caravan of chivas (typical Colombian buses), and expositions for example.

The course is aimed at people with very little or any Spanish language skills to enhance the 4 basic skills reading, listening, speaking and writing. It consists in 64 hours of language classes, divided in four (4) modules (one each week) consisting in 16 hours each module. Classes will be conducted form Monday to Thursday, resulting four (4) hours of classes per day. Every one of the 4 modules, has a different topic treated during the classes that not only shall teach language competences to the students but as well facilitate them cultural background knowledge about Colombia and Latin America. The topics treated will be “Personal Introduction”, “An approach to Latin-American traditions”, “Artistic expressions in Latin America” and “Travelling through Latin America”. Classes will be given from Monday to Thursday, thus, he time structure of the course will allow the students to have enough time to discover the city of Medellín and its surrounding putting the course’s theory into practice.

Close to Medellín you find places to discover such as small towns as Santa Fe de Antioquia, Guatapé and the monolith of El Peñol. Colombia’s coffee triangle is located near to Medellín as well.

Students will be hosted in Colombian host families during the length of the language course. Food except lunch will be provided by the host families.
