Participants will live with host families and work in the communities where they are placed. Projects include;
1. After School Projects and Children with disabilities
In most Ghanaian communities, the standards of education are very low and as such there as special projects located in those communities that compliments the regular education provided in schools. The volunteers guided by the staff of the project will take the children through various learning and sporting activities. Some of the activities could be assisting the children with homework, playing games, role-play, music, photography, gymnastics and computers.
2.Working in Kindergaten and Nursery
In Ghana children in kindergarten are between the ages of 4 – 5 years. Depending on the skills, qualifications and interest of the volunteer, placement will be done accordingly. Volunteers will be assisting permanent staff member of the school. Teaching and learning initiatives from volunteers are welcomed. This volunteer position offers the volunteer the opportunity to learn about Ghanaian kindergarten and Nursery systems and how daycare centers operate in Ghana.
3.Environmental Projects
Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute their efforts towards creating a sustainable environment for the local communities they find themselves. Projects will range from afforestation, bush fire prevention, awareness creation for good environmental practices, animal husbandry, food security and alternative energy projects to mention a few. The volunteer will assist in the daily activities scheduled by the project and also learn and share other best practices.
Participants will experience the rich Ghanaian culture by interacting with family and local members in and around the community. Participants will also have the opportunity to travel to the northern sectors of Ghana (optional)
